FAQ’s
How often should a chiropody be performed?
It depends on each person. The important thing is to ask for a visit when you start to notice discomfort. Most people need a visit every 1 or 2 months.
What is a mycosis and why do they appear?
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the toenails that causes thickening, discoloration, and brittleness. It appears due to exposure to humid environments (swimming pools, showers), wearing closed shoes, poor hygiene or injuries to the nail. Factors such as diabetes or a weakened immune system increase the risk.
What is ingrown toenails and why do they happen?
Ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis) occur when the edge of the nail grows and digs into the ingrown skin, causing pain, inflammation and sometimes infection. It can be caused by an external agent (shoe, trauma or bad cut) or by an internal cause (typical of our biomechanics).
What is a plantar wart?
A plantar wart is a benign growth on the skin of the sole of the foot, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It usually appears through direct contact with infected surfaces, especially in humid places such as swimming pools. It may cause pain when walking due to pressure on the affected area.
What is a hardness or callus?
A callus or callus is a thickening of the skin caused by repeated friction or pressure, commonly on the feet or hands. It appears as a defense response to protect the skin from injury.
